The problem with the organization making a ton of money is the same with any organization that makes a ton of money. Organizations by nature are self-perpetuating. Organizations established to solve a problem have a vested interest in the problem NOT being solved because if there is no longer a problem, there is no longer a need for the organization. Organizations that begin to become profitable end up basing their goals and self-perception on those profits, regardless of what the original goals of the organization were.

The two classes doctrine is ridiculous. Agreed.
I am sure that if there is a resurrection there will be literally millions (or perhaps billions) of different jobs/roles/duties, not just two, and they will all be equally valuable in terms of the whole society one finds him/herself living in (whether earthly, heavenly, or anywhere-else-ly).

Maybe it's just me but basic Bible interpretations on doctrines such as those laid out above are not really the big problem with JWs and the WT. In fact, on many of those the WT is just as likely to be correct in its interpretation as mainstream Christendom. Point is, most of that stuff doesn't matter in a Christian's day-to-day life. None of those things represent the insidious evil inherent in the authoritarian Governing Body/Faithful and Discreet Slave/1914/false prophecy doctrines.
I mean, if God is Love then he doesn't really care whether you think he and his Son are the same guy or two different guys. Love, one would think, is bigger than that.
Also, if there is some sort of eternal salvation/punishment, does it really matter what form that salvation/punishment takes? Really?
I just think that if this ESV Study Bible group is wanting to debunk JWs, they're barking up the wrong tree here.

I kind of feel like EasyReader1970 in that I don't feel it's worth the time explaining myself to them. Besides, it isn't one issue for me; it's everything: 1914/607, earthquakes, shunning, mind control, bonafide stupid people put in positions of authority, blood, etc. etc. ad nauseum. I could never fit it on to one page. Maybe I'll someday just send them a single sheet of paper with one line on it:

Validation and defense mechanisms, or why it's ok for billions to die
by zoiks inmore and more i have been thinking about the mindset that considers the idea that billions are to be destroyed at armageddon as perfectly ok. farkel's articles on freeminds.org really helped to bring it home for me.
as jws, we do (or did) think it was perfectly reasonable that billions will have earned a death sentence simply for not accepting religious literature from an uninvited person at their doorstep.
how do otherwise good people (for the most part) come to accept genocide as an acceptible, even good, solution to the problems they see and experience?.

A little-explored problem with the Witnesses' Armageddon dogma is that Revelation clearly states that it is a battle over rulership, between the "kings of the entire inhabited earth" and God. The link between that event and destruction of all the wicked (where "wicked" = non--JW) is scripturally tenuous at best, nonexistent at worst.

it appears to refer to those who are awakening and learning that the wt is just another religion that uses mind control to hold us captive, but for numerous reasons cant leave the org.

I'm of the belief that if we could somehow organize and all walk out at once it could be devastating to the WT. I think there are that many of us. Each of us fading in his/her own time and manner are like tiny bee stings days or weeks apart. A walk out of thousands all at once could be like a killer bee swarm.
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.

on the wording and even tone of voice used to 'apologize' for these years mis-predictions?.
stuff like this will be invaluable in helping young witnesses realize that they need to look back to last century.

If it is over 10k, we'll know because they won't release the number.
They won't spin it; they'll hide it. It was WAY UP last year and they didn't say boo. A little bump to above 10k isn't going to stir any comment because they'll just cover it up. There may be a little spin on why it isn't counted anymore but it will relate to inaccuracies from third world countries or some other such nonsense.
The only number they'll release is if it went down from 2008.

it's entitled "the importance of showing affection".. it teaches that you frequently need to touch your children and that physical expressions of affection are necessary for adults, too.
so, "sincere appropriate expressions of affection" are needed.

So one of the public magazines out right now encourages affection while the private JW version of the WT also out right now bans hugging or holding hands during prayers at the KH.
Wish I could say I'm surprised at the hypocrisy.
